REQUEST: An update to make Freetrack and FakeTrackIR compatible with 64bit software or that at least a hack or a patch be out there.

== BUMP IT UP IF YOU AGREE! :) ==

WHY?

SHORT VERSION: in some situations, 64bit software runs so much faster than 32bit but the current 32bit version of FreeTrack does not support 64bit software and will not run properly with it (this is based on my own experience). I and alot of the Freetrack users would appreciate the update as we are being put into a position where we have to chose between our beloved Freetack and using faster 64bit software.

LONG VERSION: I've been using FreeTrack for a long time with XPlane using a plugin called piloteview. Basically FreeTrack sends the fake TrackIR signal and PiloteView implements and allows you to look around the cockpit.

It's been working pefectly in XPlane 9 and 10 32bit but upon switching over to XPlane 10 64bit, the combo seezed to work PilotView which has put a perfectly functional plugin for 64bit Xplane no longer sees FreeTrack's TrackIR signal when Xplane is runing 64bit. When the same version of Xplane is running in 32bit mode (they have two executables), the same version of PiloteView works perfectly with TrackIR. Combine that with the fact that PiloteView users who have TrackIR 64bit, can use PilotView and headtracking in XPlane 64bit, I think the problem lie with FreeTrack and not either of the other programs. I beleive that FreeTrack needs a 64bit compatible update.

Why 64bit? Let me give you the example of XPlane, currently XPlane 32bit does not exploit more then 3 of my 12GB of RAM, nor does it use more than one of my 4Core of CPUS. This is the nature of 32bit software. 64Bit software support up to Terabytes of RAM and can better support multithreading. I'm expecting an performance increase of 2 to 3 times with the 64bit version of XPlane but I can't use it without proper head tracking.

Now I could bite the bullet and buy trackIR but I've put so much love and time into my FreeTrack setup (moding the PS3 cam, researching the best IR LEDS with 180o view ANGLE), I'm sure it works way better than TrackIR and it's OPEN SOURCE!! So, I'm really attached to it and I'm really crossing my fingers, hoping that a 64bit patch will be put out there.

Unfortunately FreeTrack no longer works with it when I run the 64bit version of XPlane but Freetrack+Piloteview combo still does work when I run the 32bit version (and we're talking same version numbers here, the only variant is 32bit vs 64bit). I thought it may be a problem with Pilotview but the develloper has informed me that it works perfectly with TrackIR 64bit. Combine that with the fact that Freetrack does not work with

Hey monkeyman,

I agree with you. I use freetrack for iracing, but now that iracing has been upgraded to 64 bit, freetrack does not work.  :(

I've temporarily gone back to 32 bit iracing, but I cannot see this as a good long term solution as iracing progresses.

So please developers, can you come out wiht a 64 bit version or a patch that we can use?

Also, does anybody know is this software is still supported as it appears to be quite a while since an update.

It suffices when you bump it up. :)

Even I'm always on win xp 32 I agree with you: Freetrack needs to be updated.

Adreed. Seeing as more and more systems are being run with a 64-bit OS and games are becoming 64-bit, it is rapidly losing its compatibility.

Bump, because its a great soft and consdiering how all modern sims are going to be 64 bit it would be really shame to lose it.
Even tho alternatives exist, free track is the most lightweight app of its kind, certainly a great plus when we talking about world of flight sims which are demanding as hell.

Off line Www

Hi, I compiled an 64bit version of the FreeTrackClient.dll to get FreeTrack running under Maya 64bit. Maybe it's useful.
