Hi yonyz,

thanks for the reply!  :D

do you remove the IR filter inside the lens?

About an hour ago I removed the IR filter of the camera and put a piece of a floppy disk in its place. It works brilliantly now. It sees nothing but IR light, AND the light bulb in the room, which is fine, because it's not like the camera is pointed at it.

So yeah, TrackClip Pro + PS3 Eye + Removing IR filter + Installing visible light filter (floppy) = Awesome FreeTrack setup. :D

It turns out that I do NOT need to remove the IR filter,
PS3 Eye Cam can detects my LED flawlessly.

So I would say: YES, PS Eye is definitely the way to go.

Is it possible to use the "new" playstation eye? Because I've read that the new ones are impossible to adjust.

I want to buy a playstation eye but only if I can use it for freetrack.

Does anybody use the new playstation eye with freetrack? And what do you have to do to adjust it?

Thx

I have bought my ps3 eye just last month,
I do not know if it is the "new" one or not,
however using my old freetrack, ps3 eye can see those ir leds straight out of the box, without removing the IR filter.
The only "modification" I make is: put a negative film in the front on the lens,
that's all.

the difference for the new and the old, is only how the IR Filter is installed. You don't have to disassemble and remove the filter, as reported also by a1adin (i also have the ps3eycam without removing the filter), because works very well.

I've just installed Code Laboratorie's driver and the image appears in the Cl-EyeTest pretty fine, but when I select PS3Eye in FreeTrackIR the software immediately crashes.

Any clues?

Have you installed the filter fix?

Also try installing the PS3eye driver 1st and then install freetrack. I had problems freetrack didn't recognize my webcam when I installed it after freetrack.

I have the same problem, but even if I install the filter fix. Instead of crashing all that happens is the camera no longer provides an image in any program - be it FreeTrack or the CL EyeTest. I've tested this by starting the eyetest before FreeTrack, then I use FreeTrack and I get nothing even after setting up various streams - after which I have to reinstall the PS3 Eye before I can get back an image.

Any ideas? I thought this was going to be relatively straightforward as far as plugging in the camera and stuff was concerned but seems not so far, at least for me anyways.

I got my PS3 eye today, I installed the CLdriver and the filterfix and put a floppydiskfilter on the eye.
But now FreeTrack only picks up the LEDs when I hold them 10cm / 4" in front of the camera.
Is there anything else needed?

Floppies tend to filter too strongly, especially when the camera's infrared blocking filter is still in place. You should be using exposed developed photographic film, dark gel filters or photography infrared filters.

Tried photo filter, it still didn't pick up my LEDs.
Then I tried to remove the IR filter, destroyed my PS3 Eye in the process of dissambling it. Well I guess the PS3 Eye is not the way to go.  :(

edit:

I now ordered a Xbox 360 camera, hope this is going to work better for me.
By the way, I think I know why the PS3 Eye doesn't work for me. My computer is located in front of a window with very much sunlight and as such I need a lot of lightfiltering, apperantly so much that it won't pick up my LEDs anymore. I also noticed that when I dissassembled (destroyed :( ) the PS3 Eye lens assembly that it contains at least 2 (I think even 3) IR filters, way too much filtering for my situation. So I really need a camera without an IR-filter.

PS3 Eye works great for me, even without any filter removal or lens covering.
Just a really ugly 3-point IR clip on my headset a dark room and some camera settings (gain, exposure, color filters).

Here is a video of me playing a DCS A-10C instant mission with it...

And pics of the ugly mutha IR clip:
