RSS >  Is Free-Track dead in new games?, Àll new games including new NP encrypted Interface (most likely)

I want to bring out this discussion here because i'm highly concerned that Free-Track will be non-existent for all newer games.

We saw what happened with DCS Black-Shark as they included the new Natural Point Track-IR software and as they even forced Eagle Dynamics to limit future Free-Track SDK to 3DOF, by using their damn powers as Market-Leader or monopolist.

Now some new Simulation games will come out in future with already confirmed Track-IR 5 support and i bet in these games the encryption will be present as well, basically keep us free-track users out of business.

A example i just want to show, is the highly expected Simulation "Arma2", for which you can see here already Track-IR 5 advertising video:

Will this finally mean that Free-Track is dead for all newer games?
What are Solutions? Free-Track coding its own API and working together with the manufacturers?

FreeTrack use many different interfaces :

one of them is TrackIR comptatible !

but if news games doesn't support this kind of interface, there are some choices :

- Developpers of news games use FreeTrack SDK to make a FreeTrackclient compatible interface (SDK is free and open source for everyone and include in FreeTrack 2.2.0.279 release...)
- TracK IR compatible interface can be use ?
- Mouse emulation can be use (not the best solution as well)
- Keyboard emulation is used to control camera ...
- Joystick emulation is used (with PPJoy driver)

So i don't see any other solutions to use FreeTrack ....

EDIT :
- I have forgotten Simconnect interface ....

Just take a look at this thread on the ArmA 2 forum:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=72510&page=6

Have the FreeTrack developers already contacted the ArmA 2 developers and asked if they support FreeTrack in Arma 2 ?

Yes this is very interessting if the official community manager of BI-Studio giving the tip how to get it included...

We really need this! Arma2 will be kick-ass and we want to use free-track with it.

Here's another very worried FT user.
Since i built FT cap, playing the game has got a whole new dimension to it. With a little time spent and precision used, i got flawless headtracking to Arma.

If have understood right, implementation of FT api would solve this?

I really don't like the idea of spending near 200 euros for a device that i already have and most of all did it myself, not to speak that Arma is nowadays only game that i have time to play so the cost with TIR5 is just too high.

(edited out a part that i found to be useless at this point.)

hey guys
i was of course rather disappointed to hear about freetrack not being usable in the future, since i was really excited about this and wanted to build one for myself.

i was just thinking how this problem could be circumvented and I had an idea. i have no experience or knowledge in programing, so this might not be at all possible. i was thinking that maybe a program could be written, which takes the videofeed and processes ist, outputting the data that the TrackIR Device sends to the TrackIR software. you could then have that program running at the same time as the TrackIR software, which would think that you are actually using TrackIR hardware. that way there would be no compatilility issues and you could play any game with TrackIR support with your DIY-rig.

what do you guys think? does this have any chance of working?

i buy the german version yesterday, and to sad it seems that ArmA.2 did not support freetrack.
i didnt find a possible way to activate freetrack in arma-2.

in "armed assault" freetrack works great.

i try everything that i found.
activate "track ir" in the control options etc.

nothing, no movement,

to sad.
