I am using a toshiba pa-3554u-1cam.
I detects and appears to work ok on the calibration screen, but is too slow for ingame. It says it is good for 30 fps in the specs, but is actually only getting 7 fps when running. Which is my problem. Unless someone knows of a way to squeeze some more fps out of it - I would say its a no go. * I should add, that it has no manual setting control apart from the focus. So adjusting exposure etc is not on.

Just about to head over and check them out, as I hooked up my eye toy before, and am still only getting 12 fps. It was 24 when I first started it up, so I need to check that out.
Thanks. *Just checked the FAQ, and the trick with the light and auto exposure works.

Hello I am writing from Germany,
I am using the Logitech S5500 Webcam. It is possible to use this cam without removing the IR filter and it works perfectly with the 3 point clip system bicycle light. I only mounted the filter from my old zapper in front of the lens, fixed by a elastic band (see the picture), and I got perfect results. - 1,3-MP-Sensor with RightLight - 30 fps - 35,- EURO (on AMAZON.DE including shipping) Max War

Hi, I am from Turkey.
My web cam is Microalert - OMS19. I think you have not heard these web cam. It is probably chinese web cam but it use vimicro drivers. ( I do not know where It can be purchased in Europe ) -Cheap(10 $) -Good FPS(around 29-30 FPS) and low jitter(around 3-4) -Easy removal IR Filter -Easy disable 8 Leds on the camera.(remote button on the cable) -352x288 and 640x480 resolution -RGB24 and YUY2 compression(I use RGB24) -Low CPU usage (not exceed %5)(My cpu is E7300 with 4 gb ddr2 1066 ram) And it works quite well with three point cap mode although my regular red leds are insufficient. I wonder its performance when the my three sfh485p will arrive |

Sony TRV16E DV Cam in USB Streaming Mode
I just made a proof of concept test with my DV Video Sony TRV16E Handycam (with USB Driver in streaming mode on Vista) and my son's Mickey Mouse toy headlight (with removed reflector, hope my son approves my mod, when he will find out :-) Son found out about the toylight and the headtracker in the meantime, he was quite contend and thinks the free tracker is quite cool (Dad, you bought it? ... No homemade!!!) while mum is not amuzed, but mum and headtracker is incompatible over here anyways. This worked surprisingly well in FSX with the One Point Model after some calibration (pixel diameter > 100, dark environment, threshold up) Looking forward to the results with a selfmade LED clip. (Off to the tinker's shop) Regards Gomoto P.S. Leck mi fett, whooa, whooa no LEDs needed anymore, I put my TRV16E into nightshot mode, modded my car safty vest, cut off three pieces of the reflectors and put them on an old baseballcap. This time I even dont have to care about my son finding out - ugh, who else should not find out about my modded safty vest now?!? But: Perfect 6 DOF in FSX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (DV Cam, nightshotmode, semidark environment, reflector cap +++) Regards and Thanks to the FT Team P.S.S Build a red LED Cap anyway, prefer my reflector cap, red light good to show off to friends in daylight, but else the red light is a little disturbing, looking forward to infrared test (other tipp for the TRV16E DV Cam, I struggled a little bit with the automatic demo mode in the usb streaming set up, be sure to turn the demo mode off in the menu. I thought I had a bad connection after some time, but it was only the demo mode interrupting. Its nice to invert the cam display, that way I am aware off my silly looks when I am wearing my shiny new gadgets and sometimes I even realize, it is only the dammned demo mode stopping pure enjoyment :-)

Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000
Works perfectly. I didn't have to do anything to the camera, no filter removals or additions just straight out the box and worked. I was not using LED's just reflector tabs in 3 point cap set up. |

Hello everybody!
I'm using MSI StarCam 370i, so here are some + and - points: + No IR filter + 30fps @ 640x480 + Easy to disable Auto Exposure + Low CPU usage (max 5% with AMD Athlon 3200+) + Cheap (20 Euros) + It has 3 IR LEDs and 3 White LEDs, easy to turn off or on - Only RGB24 compression - Can't put it on the monitor - Becouse it has no IR filter the colours are a bit washed out (If you are using it only for FreeTrack there is no problem) I positioned it to the left of the monitor and freetrack has no problem tracking 3 IRs, but you must use high angle LEDs. Keep up the good work on FreeTrack! P.S. Here are the settings I use :

Hy all just started to build up my Free Track System on Saturday. I bought a
Labtec Webcam 2200 15 € in our local Toy Store The result are as follows At the moment im running the system with IR filter not removed and no additional filter in front of lens. by turning the cam into black and white mode and turning Brightness / Saturation / Gamma and Exposure down to zero RBG 24 640 X 480 30 FPS Jitter 0 Cpu Load 2% on a Intel E8500 Core Duo 3.17 GHz XP Pro 64 bit 8 GB Ram But I had to troubleshoot some issues: With the driver provided by Labtec installed the opening AMCAP lead to an bluescreen. This was resolved by downloading a other version of AMCAP here. Next and still unresolved issue: 1. From within FreeTrack I can open the camera properties but will see only an empty container so I have to do my Setting in AMCAP first or switch between AMCAP and FreeTrack. 2. Even if I change to I420 FreTrack is using RGB 24 but I dont mind because of my system specs 3. The Cam clip is to narrow to fit to my ASUS VW222U TFT so Iwill build something myself

Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 Works with FreeTrack (not used in game yet, not made a 3 point cap yet) Testing was done with a DVD player remote and an audio receiver remote, laser mouse. Removed IR filter (didn't try with it), floppy disk for visible light filter. Auto exposure can be disabled. Manual focus. 352x288 resolution with constant 30 fps with 1-3 fps jitter CPU usage ranges from 5 - 11% 640x480 got 9 fps and CPU gets as high as 15% FOV seems pretty decent. Camera and stream settings accessible from freetrack, settings do work and save. Seems ok in low light with the right camera settings. Not tested in daytime or bright conditions yet, would imagine it works ok with the settings tweaked. Don't know the pricing for this cam, it has reached End of Life with Logitech, may not be sold anymore. This cam has no Vista drivers, although with a bit of hacking it can be done (see this link, will require disabling the signed driver boot up check for 64 bit) I can't think of anything else to include at this time, if you would like any other info, just ask |
