White in an illuminated environment  and default cam settings ;)

I don't really get what you mean by that  :)
Did the measuring again and it's still 1,8 cm ...
So could you give me a link to the correct lens and mount?
Cheers!

Sure, just carefully connect it to the PC and see if it works with the CL Eye test, although you would see just a white image. If you see it, it's OK.
Just tested it: it still is able to detect the shade if I hold my finger in front of the light so I think it's ok  :)
Good to read, repeat the test with light to be sure ;)

I just meant to make the camera test with an illuminated environment (that is, with light hitting the sensor) to see the white image. That's all.

So if your measurement is correct you should get this mount, which is the 18 mm version.

I'll repeat the test tomorrow with a lightsource, but for now I think it's a good sign it is able to detect the shade of my finger in contrast of the lighted enviroment. :)

Thanks again! Hopefully I'll get a good setup soon. We got the LED's working for new, just have to permanantly attach them to the hat.

Off to bed now!
Talk to you later and I'll keep you updated!

I looked at eBay and I found that the cost is 20 euro for the lens + 3 euro for the M12 mount + 10 euro shipment...
That's only 6 euro less than a new one...

Is this worth it? I mean: is this new lens really better than a regular cam with photofilm? What is your experience?

I don't want to influence your choice, so it's up to you. I can list the pros and the cons that I can recognise.

New PS3 Eye

Pros
_You know that it will work without hassle (well, if not DOA)

Cons
_You would be at the same point of before: infrared cut-off filter still present in the camera.

New objective lens + mount

Pros
_You would be using your already-owned PS3 Eye
_You would get an objective lens optimised for the infrared spectrum
_Little or no need of an additional filter if the environment isn't too bright

Cons
_Price

You decide.

Could you give a picture or something of your setup with the new lens?
Because the lens is bigger, are you sure it still fits in the regular plastic cover of the cam?
And does the tracking work perfectly with that setup?

So the thing I want to know is:
Does the one with the new lens get a better tracking than the original cam with photofilm over it?

You have to remove the rotating tubular handle (the one used to change the zoom level which is also the cover of the objective lens). It's easy since it's removable.

According to empirical data, yes it does, thanks to the lack of an infrared cut-off filter (like the hot mirror) and enhanced infrared radiation transmittance.

Also, in the link of my modified camera scroll down to see the last two images of the post (what the camera and FreeTrack see, respectively).
If you need further pictures just ask.

Payement is made!
I wasn't able to find the option to ship both items together...
But the seller told me he would refund me, but we'll see  :)
Hopefully I'm able to fit the lens very soon!
Total pricetag at the moment for the modifications 32 Euro.
Maybe minus 3 Euro if the seller refunds the shipment.

Update: got back the 2,5 GBP for the second shipment
Cheers

While waiting to assemble the parts, prepare a photographic film or a floppy disk magnetic layer, just in case.  ;)
