I'm glad you had solved problems :)

I'm playing DCS: BS.

I used to play Il-2 too. Excellent game.

Word you were looking for was 'jitter'.

Well, if you see nick JLZ and set me in the flames somewhere over Normandy just remember who had helped you  :stuart:

So how did you go about bumping up the FPS?

I am getting 16fps no matter what resolution I  use 800x600, 640x480 etc.

I have exposure set at 1000, don't know what to do with gain.

It seems like it works. When I run it freetrack sees the IR light i am pointing at it, but the FPS never come off 16.

thanks

edit: I don't know what I did. I only flipped it to RGB24 and suddenly got 30fps and it works fine. The only issue is that the skull doesn't move much at all.

The E2500 seems to work OK after an initial fright with windows 7 trying to install the wrong drivers.  My system uses Win7 64 bit.

Tip - don't let windows do it - download lws110_x64.exe from the Logitech site if you have something other than XP or Vista (supplied on CD)

The Logitech E2500 can be bought in the UK from Amazon for about £1.49 + P&P total around £6.00

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-960-000227-Quickcam-E2500/dp/B00178MGV0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309963527&sr=8-1

I noticed that it performed v badly (4 -10fps) on initial install, with default settings, then perked up quite a bit after a reboot to around 16fps.

Then I disabled all the Camera auto settings and with a piece of floppy disc material taped over the lens and using a simple LED torch for initial tests it got 30+ fps with 1 or 2 JPS.
Initially tested with Device settings for Brightness etc at default.
Automatic Gain control OFF
Exposure control all the way to the left (1/20 s)
Gain around half way (500)
Anti-Flicker set to 50Hz (Europe)
Low Light Boost OFF
Color Boost OFF

With a simple single point LED torch as a marker, in 1 point mode, it seemed to work OK

With Stream set to RGB24 320x240 or 352x288  30FPS was fine, but dot appeared red.
With stream set to I420, the only difference seemed to be that the dot on screen was white, otherwise still 30 to 31 frames with 0 to 1 JPS.

That was with a visible light windup torch that had a very narrow beam, but the head model on screen moved around just fine considering the LED angle is probably no more than 20 degrees.

I assume there is an IR filter in there, but a quick test with a resister, a battery and an IR LED seemed to work -  but quite faintly compared to a visible light LED.

EDIT: removed the IR Filter and no surprise, the IR LED (with visible light filter) is now very much brighter - so it should be OK.
Note - the IR Filter is a little glass square, which broke - not that it matters for such a cheap cam, but if you want to have the possibility to replace it - then you need to remove it very carefully.

Now all I have to do is build a headset.
