Hello,
I'm trying to run freetrack on Windows 2000, but am getting an access violation error when I start, and then access violations when I try to click on anything.  The GUI is completely broken, courtesy of the access violations I'm sure.  Has anyone seen this and/or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

PS.  Is there no search function for the forum?  I looked around on the page but couldn't see one, so I resorted to a google search on just the forum like so:

"access violation site:forum.free-track.net" but it didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd write this post.

Hmm, maybe this is a better question:  Has anyone successfully used the current version of FreeTrack (v2.1.2) on the Windows 2000 platform?

In case this is helpful to anyone else, I figured it out!  ID10T error on my part:-)  Win2k doesn't come with directx installed by default so I had to put that on.  I'm so used to XP and Vista having it by default that I didn't even think about it. (Please don't ask me why my company is still using win2k...)  So, no access violations now!  My whole aim at using freetrack is for cursor movement, so now onto the next problem:

The mouse emulation is grayed out and I don't know why.  Has anyone solved this type of problem before?  How is freetrack interfacing with the mouse control for the OS?  I wonder if the API for win2k is different than XP or Vista, or if it's something else I'm missing.

Any thoughts?

For mouse : wich kind of driver you used ?

Windows driver or Other manufacturer driver ?

Try with standard OS mouse driver ...

Thanks for the suggestion.  The mice I have connected are both being classified by Windows as "HID-compliant mouse" and are using the standard windows drivers.  The driver files are:

c:\winnt\system32\DRIVERS\mouclass.sys
c:\winnt\system32\DRIVERS\mouhid.sys

version: 5.00.2195.6666

as I was looking at this information I realized perhaps this isn't the right track:  drivers are handling the hardware specifics of the device and then presenting a standard interface for the OS or other applications to interact with.  For freetrack mouse emulation, wouldn't it want to interact directly with the OS input API or whatever it may be called?  We're not dealing with any hardware so I don't see how existing  drivers on the system would have anything to do with it.  Maybe I'm incorrectly assuming how freetrack would emulate a mouse, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I suppose one could write a driver that is taking input from freetrack instead of a mouse, and then it would present itself to the OS as a normal input device, as far as the OS was concerned.

Does anyone know how freetrack is connecting with the OS to provide mouse emulation?

Only FreeTrack developpers can answer to your last sentence ...

I used standard windows mouse driver (provided with Windows XP ...) !

If you don't have luck with freetrack mouse emulation try with trackmapper software to test ...
