Well, I had a very old webcam that I tried to remove the IR filter.  Unfortunately it was an old Logitech webcam express, and didn't get faster then 15fps.  so it was not a big deal that I broke the lens. :-)

I need to fing the right LED Diodes..   I can't get the flat IR variety on the Digikey site.  Any help for someone in the USA that needs the SFH485P LED?

where can I find this LED?  I am thinking of using a cap and the 3 LED system.  While I am decent soldering, I am clueless with the calculations for the Electrical stuff.

I am hoping to use my AA rechargable batteries...  they are 1.2 volt 2300mAH, can 2 of these run 3 SFH485P's?  I would like to find the LEDs and maybe a switch and the required resisters for a series setup...  ( the one where if a LED fails you can immediately tell which one it is. )

One last thing, I need another webcam to mod.  has anyone tried the MS 6000 series?  I know the 1000 and the 3000 are supported.  Is the 1000 that much of a headache to set-up because of the AE issues?

Thanks.

Also, I have a 150$ dell card, which I hope to get rudder pedals, and a new web cam with.

Now I currently use a logitech 4000 series as my webcam...  My 10 year old logitech webcam express is now minus a plastic lens,  and that one of course doesn't do 30fps so no biggie.

should I mod the 4000 and just get a better webcam for normal use like the orbit?  or should I just go with the cheaper webcam like the 1000 or the 3000 from MS?

Another question....  has anyone tried Cachya 2.1????  How is this better or not better then that program?  I have tried it, and It seems like its a little laggy/jittery but that was with the trail, and only one axis at a time.

I would love peoples opinions on this vs cachya vs trackir pro.  ( id rather DIY, but I would rather take the best option )

my PC is a dell 530 2 gigs ram, intel core 2 duo 2.33 ghz, 8600 GT 256meg grfx card.  X45 HOTAS, and hopefully the rudder pedals.

I fly mostly in FSX, but I would love to use this in CFS3, and whatever is the best Multiplayer  combat flight sim.  I would also want to use it in Battlefield 2

thanks again for any help.

First off, I have read almost every post in the english forums, before I posted in here.  The info I was looking for was not readily apparrent to me.  Anyways, I am posting with an update on my project.

I ended up getting the vx1000 cam, and modding it.  This cam is OK, but nothing works to get the AE check box unchecked.  enable button and the other program do nothing...  ( I am running Vista )  <--- I think thats the issue with those programs.  I have gotten it to get 30fps, but I have to always do it each time I start freetrack. If anyone has a vx1000 and windows vista, and can get that AE checkbox to uncheck, please let me know how you do it. ( using most current version of cam driver..  1.4 I think )

I could not find the IR LEDs that are recomended anywhere besides for the one place that costs a lot to ship, and has a min order size.  So I went to Radioshack and picked up their massively overpriced 5mm IR LEDs.  After 2 return trips to RadioShack, I forgot to buy a solder iron and then I figured out that I used the wrong info to calculate the resistor so I needed to return the 680 Ohm ones for some 22 Ohm ones..    I went with a 3 point clip at the moment.  It is working perfectly although I need to file the LEDs I think...  The IR LEDs are actually really good for being rounded...  ( running them at 50mA or half intensity )   I am not looking forward to filing the LEDs...  it seems to me that it would take a lot of filing to get them down enough...  maybe I can use my dremel at a low rpm to grind them down?

So far i am regretting getting into this... :-)  I am already thinking about making a 3 point cap,  making a USB powered LED system ( most likely using a powered USB hub not attached to the PC so I don't fry the computer )  I have priced out some rudder pedals.  The biggest issue is my seat.  I think I need to make a cockpit. :-)

So far this is a Great program, I still might go with TrackIR pro, but I doubt I want to spend that much $$ when I already have the same functionality with FreeTrack.

Sorry i had no intensions on makeing a foul of you. -it just happens that Alot just ask questions, before reading around here.

You have'nt posted here (you might have missed it) -and i do hope it helps you along http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=614

ON the sanding down thing: I use standard RED 15° (half angle) NOT sanded, i tied that (no good for me). I found it was better just to matte them with a grind 1200 or simular, leaving them in there original lens shape. -AND yes you can CUT/GRIND them and sand the last step.

Wellcome to true DIY dude. -i am going in that direction too. -Glider seat configuration, and a JET/WW2 add-on for the seat. -Click on the BLUE part of my signature, and goto page 2 -my DIY semi-cockpit for now :) BUT beware it holds another DIY project (cheap, can be - yes) you JUST NEED for flying simulators, but your family might enjoy it too.

Correct. You need to use vistaEnabler. The FAQ has been updated accordingly.
