Built first single point set up and it works fairly well. Next I'm going to build a 3 point clip. My question is if I wire the diodes and resistors in parallel i only need use one AA battery as it will provide enough voltage. If I wire in series I need four AA batteries in series to get the voltage. So what is the benefit of wiring in series? Do batteries wired in series provide more mAh ? I didn't think it did!!??!!.

Why do you want to use batteries? After i while playing the voltage will drop and you have to replace them because they are empty.
If you use a usb-port you get a constant voltage ( 5volt) and then you place the leds in serie you just need 0ne resistor instead of three. It is not advisible to use a usb-port of your pc.
If you use batteries with leds paralel you use more current( 3x 50mA) so the batteries won't last that long.
Well... this is something to think about (usb verses batteries)

I recently built a 4 led setup and started with a 9 volt system. It was terrible with the weight of the battery and I knew there had to be a better way. Using the EXACT same setup I clipped the plug off of an old cell phone charger (already converted to 5v) I even added a rocker switch. It's been working for months now and I use the system for IL2 Cliffs of Dover and 777 Studios Rise of Flight...I have it all working GREAT ! Your best bet is to go on YouTube and watch some videos "search" for the same answers you'll find them there as I did..
