Hello there,

I got some random IR LEDs (I have no specifics, but they work) and some resistors (45 ohms each I think) from a friend, plus he made me a makeshift battery holder from an old remote. Pic related:

He also lent me his soldering thingie so I think I can get it all together, although I have no idea how many resistors will I need but I'll figure that out somehow. What I need is some clarification on what I need to do next.

1. file down the IR LEDs
2. put the whole thing together and attach it to a cap
3. remove the IR filter from my webcam
4. replace it with a visible spectrum filter (photographic film)

Is that it or am I forgetting something? Don't wanna start until I'm sure I'm gonna get it done right.

Hi,

Give a try to Freetrack soft with a remote control in front of the cam, to see if software works. (If you haven't  already done.) Unfortunately there are a lot of problems with Freetrack on Win7  and 8. It would be too bad to build a mount, to see FT don't works on your system.
Otherwise go ahead on your plan.

...although I have no idea how many resistors will I need...

That depends on the circuit (serial, parallel) and the power source you will use. If you do not have technical specs for the IR LEDs it would be recommended to measure current in circuit.
