Hello Guys,
i want to build 3Point Free Track Cap but i need your help for buying matterials.
So i found some IR-Leds. Is these Leds good for Free Track Cap? What Leds are better?
Ebay: 1.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Stuck-IR-LED-Infrarotdioden-Sendedioden-TSAL4400-/280647227324?pt=Bauteile&hash=item4157e0d7bc

Or maybe its better these:
2.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/10x-IR-LED-Infrarotdiode-SFH-487-2-/110968667272?pt=Bauteile&hash=item19d63f7c88

What about Resistors? What Resistors sould i need if i take these Ir-Leds ^^?
And last pount: Batteries.. Is enough 2-Batterieholder?

(Sorry for my bad english)
Thankyou for these answers
With Regards,

Hi,

both are Ø3mm. So I do not recommend them.
You better go for the Ø5mm like the SFH485P.

If you are in Germany:

Conrad: SFH485P
or
Farnel: SFH485P

The resistor depends on your batteries supply, 3V, 4.5, 9V... or what ever.
But they do not last very long. I recommend 5V USB charger power supply.

Oh thank you.. :) But if these IR-LED's has got 3V so i can take 9V Battery.
But if i take 9V Battery it is ok when i take 30Ohm Resistor?

No, forward voltage of the SFH485P is 1.5V.
So for a serial circuit with 80mA:

9V - (3 x 1.5V) / 0.08A = 56 Ohm
and
56Ohm x 0.08A² = 0.358W

you need a 56 Ohm resistor with 1/2W Power rating.

or go for this build:
http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1856&message=11461

But again, with 80mA and  2000mAh batteries you're lifetime is about 10-12h.
Not really economic.

Yeah i think with Usb-Power Suply is better but i want to build this in low buged and I have not so much money.. :(
Is the lifetime 10-12h for Resistors or LED'S?

It's the livetime of your batterie. ;D

A USB-Charger do not cost the earth:

USB-Ladegerät

If you got any other power supply 5V,6V,9V... you can take them either. (Old mobile charger, or what ever. Mobile charger (Handy-Ladegeräte) are good because they are regulated.
Ask if you got problems with resistor calculation.

I have no Idea about the Lifetimes-Resistors... :D

I found that the USB PSU adapter I have says it's 4.4v, not 5v. I didn't really like using the USB cable to power the LEDs anyway, as it's quite thick and heavy.

I've got a proper 5v PSU spare, which is this one http://newpowercord.com/index.php?main_p...ts_id=5107 which would be better as the lead is quite thin and light.

I want to get a inline DC power socket to attach to my clip, so that I can plug the PSU into it. What size DC power socket will I need? It says "Pin Size: 0.9 x 3.5 x 7.7 mm" so I guess I need 3.5mm by 0.9 but I'm not sure if I can buy that. The most common one on ebay seems to be 1.2 or 1.3mm.
