So my TrackIR 4 recently burnt out somehow, just won't recieve any power. I tried everything.
Naturally I still have my track hat with reflective strips, what I want to know is this:
If I stick IR LEDs above my monitor and mod my webcam as appropriate, will the trackhat and reflectors work instead of making a hat covered with LEDs? I anticipate that this will probably work, just does freetrack's software support this method?
I can just about afford to buy the IR LEDs and I have a USB 'led on a stick' already which I plan to modify.

As far as I can gather from various threads about reflective mounts, the main problem is to find a good IR-source with enough luminosity. It seems, as if the originally Track-IR cam is much sensitive than other webcams.
Otherwise, dimensions of TrackIR-mount works well.

My plan has changed slightly, I found a webcam in a drawer which has 6 LEDs mounted on its front. I will replace these with Infrared LEDs, remove the IR filter from the camera and put some floppy disc in its place.
6 IR leds should work, right?
Also, if I take the green light filter from the front of my broken trackIR, I shouldn't have to mess around with floppy discs? Right?
