I have a PS3 Eye new version with IR-filter that cant be removed.
I tried with a floppy but its too strong and only works nicely if I'm very close to the camera and it stops working only after a few degrees of YAW or Pitch....

So I was thinking of buying a photographic filter and let my girlfriend who's an optician and has the correct hardware cut it to the correct size..

But, they are almost as expensive as the PS3 Eye so I cant afford buying the wrong type. What is the best filter for the PS3 Eye with its filter intact and using a TrackIr Pro Clip (3 Point model)?

Thanks

Hi,

it depends above all of the wavelength of your IR-LEDS.
For example: SFH 485 P works with 880nm (100%), (>80% abward of 860nm and <80% over 910nm).
So every filter blocking light up to ~750nm and they works fine. But, if the PS3 Eye Filter block IR-light from 800nm and above, ...you see nothing.

For better comprehension:

I've tried to find info on the TrackIr PRo clip but havent found anything, so i would be glad if someone here nows their specs... The led light is very visible so I dont think the ir-filter on the PS3 Eye is is very strong, i did a fast google and someone is reporting over 900 nm, but its nothing official...

edit: As to the filter removal guide you kindly supplied, that is the old version with easy filter removal...

Well, considering Freetrack headtracking for a low-cost project, I would not spend above 20$ for high-tech filters. I tried out the most solution given here and they mostly works fine.
Floppy disk - good, but depends a lot on webcam.
Exposed film - good
Sheets of color plastic films - need some experimentation, but give some good results.

I finished with a Ir-filter from a Ir-receiver found on the front display of an old VHS recorder. Works like a charm.

Better spend that 20$ for a Freetrack-donation.  ;)

Yes, mostly they works fine without  breaking the filter.
