I have just tried to set up freetrack following a demo on "Youtube" where the instructions were to use "Yellow"LED's and therefore eliminating the need to modify the webcam filter. I am having trouble getting it to work, any help would be appreciated.

cheers
RickRuski.

Hi Steph,

I'm completely lost as to how to set up "Freetrack" sucessfully. I downloaded the manual, and although I tried to follow the instructions, found I have a vivid "Red screen"  in the setup proceedure where the 'Cam " screen is. Although I can see my outline and have the 3 LED cap set up and lit the LED 's seem too bright. I wish if possible to also retain the use of the webcam for Skype so don't want to have to remove the internal filter. What other options do I have??. The circles that indicate "Freetrack" working are not turning to green as I think they should (only once) and there are mutiple "+" signs on the screen which I think indicates too much other light being recognised by the cam. I have tried turning off all light in the room and although this helps (that is the odd occasion that the green indicators came on) I can't get the system working. Help in the set up proceedure would be great, is it possible to use an external filter in front of the lens on the webcam??.

Hi Rick,

That depends on your Cam and the possibilities to change cam-settings. I'm using a Logitech Qickcam 5000 and I don't need any modification, just a daylight-filter (which is an old part of a ir-sensor-filter from VHS-recorder.)
And it works fine with every ir-Leds and full daylight.

The circles that indicate "Freetrack" working are not turning to green as I think they should (only once) and there are mutiple "+" signs on the screen which I think indicates too much other light being recognised by the cam.

This is right, you need to have one "+" on every Led-point for good tracking.

I don't now what cam you use. This is what I would try:
In a dark room:
Turn the threshold-slider in Freetrack to 50%.
Turn every cam settings to min. Disable auto-functions. And then turn them up until you get your three led points with one "+", working in every head-position.

Later, if you got other light-sources in the room you can try different filters (colored plastic, floppy-disk, etc. ) to avoid them disturbing your tracking.

It will not working with normal cam-settings and without any filter. So you have to change every time you use your cam with Freetrack.

Thanks for your reply Steph, I am using a Microsoft Lifecam VX1000 (which is in the list). Tried a filter made from a floppy disc which seems to work although the reaction from the system is not smooth and with some delay at times. Will try your suggestions and see what happens. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
