Not realy, you don't need such a voltage to run bright LEDs. I use 30mA from 2-3ft, when i used it from 3-4ft i just increased the brightness settings on cam and worked ok.
All u need is 2xAA for parallel or 4x1.5V AA for serial circuit setup, just use smaller resistors. If u use serial version it should be a bit more power efficient and it is easy to switch the resistors if needed to tune brightness (there is just one).
