EDIT - Scratch the stuff below. I am just going to go with a TrackIR 4 camera since I already have the TrackClip and then don't have to worry about trying to get all of this stuff to work. Not enough time to fly as it is now.
_________________________________________________________ I am new to FreeTrack - just the last couple of days. I am using an Xbox Live Vision camera from an Xbox 360 and a TrackClip pro with IR LEDs at 30 FPS. FreeTrack works very well in IL2 and working okay in Flight Simulator X, but I can only get it to output using mouse in Rise of Flight (kind of jerky and slow), and cannot get it to work at all in Wings of Prey. I am going to get a bluetooth dongle and use a Wii remote for 100 FPS in a couple of days, but the issue still remains that I cannot seem to get head tracking working in Rise of Flight without using mouse output or at all in Wings of Prey. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+1
Having the same issue in RoF. Free Track only works using Mouse output and is jerky. Am I doing something wrong? Seems others have gotten it to work. Using Logitech Quick Cam 5200 and 3pt led clip. TIA Tom out

I somehow got it to start working with just the FreeTrack, TrackIR, and FS2004, but unchecked simconnect and mouse output.
Someone suggested trying to update directx (I tried but it was already a new version), and I downloaded and installed the newest TrackIR software from their website in anticipation of getting my TrackIR 4 camera in a couple of days (heard that the camera will not work if you plug it in before installing the software - don't know if that is true). I went as far as uninstalling the newest FreeTrack 2.2 and installing the previous version and then back to 2.2. Rebooted a couple of times during all of this and suddenly it is working great. It works for me now in Rise of Flight and Wings of Prey without checking mouse output and it is incredible - very smooth and natural after configuring the settings. Just have to tweak the sensitivity in profile and global settings and change the curves for a little deadzone at center and toned down the zoom quite a bit (z axis?). You may have to mess with the threshold slider to get just your LEDs recognized and block out background light (located right above the source - your camera name in the camera tab). Also, make sure you uncheck "auto" exposure on the camera control tab on the camera properties. I have mine set between -6 and -10. I am also using a 3-point clip (TrackClip Pro). I went ahead and ordered the TrackIR 4 camera for $99 because I just want reliable head tracking for current and future games and less down time trying to get stuff to work.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try reinstalling Freetrack. It seems others have had success trying this. Will post my results.

I had just about given up on getting it to work with Rise of Flight, but somewhere in the process of updating things it did work. I did NOT have to reinstall Rise of Flight or Wings of Prey.
I did install an earlier version of TrackIR software to get a file (TIRViews.dll I think), but that file it turns out was just for old flight simulator games I think. That is when I reinstalled FreeTrack and decided to get a TrackIR 4 camera. I then installed the latest TrackIR software from their website in anticipation of the camera coming in. As a disclaimer - I don't know if it is legally okay to install TrackIR software without owning a camera and I only did it when I placed an order for a camera. The weird thing is that when running FreeTrack (once it was working okay) it popped up a message box from the TrackIR software to add the name of the games to TrackIR when I ran Rise of Flight and Wings of Prey. I had only started FreeTrack when this happened and not TrackIR (although the installation of TrackIR may have added a process to the Windows XP startup - again, not sure). So, if I was to put 2 and 2 together, I would guess that the official TrackIR software install may have had something to do with FreeTrack starting to work on my system. Good luck on getting yours to work because it is well worth it. I started playing with the flight recorder part of Rise of Flight and was amazed that it does not slow down the game at all on my AMD XP 4800+ dual core and 9600GT GPU on WinXP w/4 gigs ram. I can't wait for my camera to get here so I can just plug it in and go - although at this point FreeTrack works so well that I don't really expect it to be much smoother or reliable.

Thank You MIK3K!
Did a reinstall of Free Track again, this time making sure I deleted the Free Track folder as well as deleting from "Add/Remove Programs" then re-booted and it worked!Fan-flippin"-tastic! I appreciate the feedback and look forward(or any way I turn my head, lol) to seeing you over No Man's Land Thanks again, Tom out |

Hi fellow!
As I wanted to build my own 3 clip, I firstly tried to test with a simple light (no IR and before take off the IR filter from my cam). I followed the "step by step" to make work Freetrack and WoP together. As the most of us, no way to run WoP with Freetrack. I turned the off UAC and the game has been added to the freetrack profile with success. As I'm a bit paranoid with security, I turned the UAC on. I launched Freetrack with admin privileges, still no way with WoP. I had the idea to launch WoP also with admin privileges and it worked!!! Conclusion: You MUST run Freetrack AND WoP with admin privileges, then it's OK. No need to deactivate UAC when you want to play. I hope this will help. |
