Hey,
my impression from browsing around here is that you need to be a total electronics freak with a workbench, solder, and tons of know-how in order to get FreeTrack running.

However I hope with some help from you all a newbie like me can get it working too. Here are a few questions I have:

* How do I power the LEDs? I need as clear as possible step by step instructions here...
* How do I use the Wii remote as a camera?
* Do understand correctly that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a Creative Live! Cam to work with FreeTrack? Or does it just not work as well?
* Can I use the Wii sensor bar as an LED instead of buying ones with a power supply etc.?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

No you don't... in simpliest way you need only one led, piece of tape and 1.5 volt battery to make 1 point (2 dof)  setup.  ...just be patient...
start by reading handbook

Tons of diffrent setups for inspiration in here

Search for wii in these forums many threads for that also..

Hope this helps you to get started...

I fought a similar battle. You might get some info from the thread I created when I had no clue.

I'm using that exact camera.  The Creative Cam LIVE  NX.  It works fantastic!

Now, I should say that I went with a visible light LED instead of the IR.  It just made it easier, and didn't require that I dismantle my webcam.  For that time being! :D

Anyways, works good, and these other guys links are things that I used as well to get acquainted.

Thanks all for your help so far.

Because my fingers were itching for some action, I tried something silly/crazy which actually worked to show me the work I'd put into it is worth it:

I tied the Wii sensor bar vertically to my forehead using a scarf. I looked incredibly stupid, but noone was around to see it, my Creative Live! webcam picked it up perfectly in a dark room, and also perfectly in a light room with some photo negatives taped to the front. So I used that as a 1-point setup and it worked like a charm after playing around a bit with the settings. So for now I've been flying around with 2D head tracking, and it's been a blast. :)

It'll still take some tweaking to get the settings right (e.g. how do I set a nice little "dead zone" so it doesn't jitter all the time?), but I'm sure I'll get it to work.

Thanks for the links to the "newbie-help" threads for the more sophisticated (and MUCH less idiotic-looking) solutions, I'll be checking those out.
