What is the requirement in term of IR wavelength if I want to make one without removing the IR filter...?

Thanks

I would say try your camera first with IR LED's.

I did, with my PS2 EyeToy and was pleasantly surprised the IR LED's are easily visible. Even with two pieces of exposed camera film over the lens to make the blackground completely black. And it works in broad daylight.

This is a camera with the IR filter STILL IN PLACE  B)

I can thoroughly recommend the PS2 EyeToy camera*

Going to get VX-3000 by tomorrow, it's RM89 that's around US24. Going to test it a normal LED while waiting for my SFH485P.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question because I don't know the relevant specifications.  But if it helps, what you're looking for is the average wavelength of light that is passed through the film filter and how it compares to the wavelengths of light blocked by a webcam's IR filter.  I think it'd be easier to answer this question by trial-and-error that to come up with a specific number.

From what I gather, the IR filter in most webcams do not block out all IR light, just most of it.  I built my setup using IR LEDs and without removing the IR filter in my webcam, and it works perfectly.  As long as some infrared light is getting through, especially when nothing else is getting through, FreeTrack will work perfectly. :)
