Hi

I would like to know which is the best ir led to buy to use with a wiimote camera, i have done some research and in the handbook that you can get off this website it suggests this model:

But it is now a discontinued product.

I am wondering if this model is suggested because the viewing angle is 80 degrees. Maybe this will help with the tracking.

Is it best to bet LED's with the highest viewing angle?

Or does it need to be a specific angle?

I looked around for the viewing angle of the wiimote and that is 45 degrees but that only effects the X motion i think.

I have bought some infrared LEDs from local electronic stores, and they usually work very well.  So check around and see what you have locally in your city.

The larger the viewing/emitting angle the better.  This means it'll be easier for FreeTrack to see your LEDs when your head is pointed away from the camera or wiimote, just like what you suggest.

But, you can turn any LED into a wide-angle LED simply by filing it down using sandpaper, a nail file, rubbing it on concrete, etc.  File the plastic tip down to 1-2mm above the metal components within the LED, and you'll now have wide-angle LEDs!

Thats great, i followed your advice and sanded the led's with a nail file and it makes a huge differance!!
