im wondering if its possible to break into an old TV remote control to use the infrared LED . My WII remote picks the tv control LED up fine but when i press a number it constantly flashes and does not stay on other wise i would stick the remote on my head. Im only after 1 point tracking for IL2 1946. Anyone tried this ? is there a way to make the led stay on constantly .

thanks

Well at least my remote's tend to do the same as your Wiimote. And you'd need to either tape down a button and then tape down the whole remote to your head just to get 2DOF. Seems like an awful lot of trouble.

I've managed to get 1 point and even 3 point tracking to work fine without any need for IR leds, so I'd suggest you to just find something like a christmas led light series that comes with a battery compartment. You can tape around all the unnecessary leds or modify the series itself to suit your needs. Led Flashlight (those keychain types) might work as well, as long as it spreads the light to a larger area than typical flashlights.

You can get 2DOF to work with just about anything, so look around your household and see what you can find before you go break that remote - unless you know what you are doing, of course.
