I want to make a 3 point cap and I need some help.
I want to take the 3 osram SFH485P LEDs and make a serial(only serial) assembly using a battery. What battery type do I need for this? Are these types of batteries you will suggest easy to find? Also,I have in mind some other types of LEDs which have an angle of 20 degrees. I read that you need to do a little tweak to make them work for freetrack. What is this tweak and how am i supposed to do it? Thanks!

For LED 20° is too few ....
You must use LED with better angle of degrees 65° or more ... (40° ultra mini ... - To have a better angle, you must to have a flat LED on top (look for example a SFH485P, you will see what i want to tell you ....)) Contact Tristan68 to have better information about that ... For battery, i use 2 AAA 1,5volts (or 2 AAA 1,2 V 1800 mini or best with 2800 mah) in serial with an R for each LED (so i use 3 R with 3 points caps ...) Look "3 dots cap build" document included in freetrack 2.2 package sofware for more informations and pictures ...

I found an old post by tristan saying that if I use an IR modded webcam I should put at the LED assemby wizard 50mA tops. I will use an IR webcam though. Will it hurt if I make it on 60-70mA for better brightness?
this is his post http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1053 I also found out that he thinks that the forward voltage of the osram sfh485 is 1.5v but this page here says that it is 3! http://www.darlas.gr/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=1036762 And this here as well!http://admin.applegate.co.uk/listings/stock/item/645531.html This makes a big difference as if the osram really has 1.5v then I will use a 9volt serial for sure! Who am I going to beleive? the seller or tristan? So Is this assembly CORRECT using Tristan's data about the OSRAM SFH485P?

Yep, it's definitely correct . The SFH485P requires only 1.5V, no more, and that's for sure.
60mA is too much if your webcam is IR modded. 50mA is a maximum, you should lower the intensity a little bit more. 60-70mA are required only for non-modded webcam so IR can get through the filter. Rémy |

Thanks guys! That makes it all so easier than I first thought. Going to set up freetrack as long as I get this new sim in my hands.
It is the best WWI aviation simulator around. It will be released in a matter of weeks(if not days). Check it out if you want. It is freetrack compatible as the game is based on MIcrosoft's CFS3. But it is a TOTALLY different experience than the not-so-good CFS3 . http://www.overflandersfields.com/ |
