Hi all, my first post here.
I've been using FreeTrack since version 2.1 without serious issues -a few infrequent crashes but no serious complaints. Today I installed version 2.2 and I can't even get the program to start. When I try to run FreeTrack it gives me four error popups. The first is: "Access violation at address 00402272 in module 'FreeTrack.exe'. Write address of 4029B311." I click "OK" and the Windows Vista "FreeTrack.exe has stopped working" screen comes up with the "Check online for a solution" and "Close the program" options. Details: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: FreeTrack.exe Application Version: 2.2.0.267 Application Timestamp: 2a425e19 Fault Module Name: FreeTrack.exe Fault Module Version: 2.2.0.267 Fault Module Timestamp: 2a425e19 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0001a259 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 3081 Additional Information 1: c600 Additional Information 2: 28135df00ff12ba12c3868deafc57c90 Additional Information 3: 9b0b Additional Information 4: 188bb83483a5a80f0c7c3883ed41c9a0 I press close and I get: "Exception EAccessViolation in module FreeTrack.exe at 0001A259. Access violation at address 0041A259 in module 'FreeTrack.exe'. Read address of 40239CA6." I press OK and get: "Runtime error 216 at 00403472." I press OK and it kills the process. At no point is the FreeTrack window or anything visible - all I get is the series of error messages. As for fixes, I have already tried the following and none make any difference: 1) Re-downloaded the setup file 2) Uninstalled, cleaned registry, restarted and reinstalled 3) Installed the DirectX 9 files required 4) Run the program in Administrator mode, and Windows XP/2000/2003 compatibility mode. I also tried in non-admin mode just on the off chance it might do something different, but it had no effect. 5) Installed the program outside of C:\Program Files (x86) so it shouldn't be a UAC thing. 6) Tried disabling Anti-Virus software. 7) Booted, reinstalled, etc in safe mode This is pretty much every solution I've found offered on these forums so far. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks! And finally, a big thank you to the developers of this excellent software! ==Edit== I should add that I'm using Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. ==Edit2== Tried using safe mode, no effect.

Nobody else has this problem?!
I've tried screwing around with d3dx9_33.dll but to no effect. If the devs want me to do anything to help fix this I'm happy to oblige. |

Okay I've now tried a bunch of different drivers for my webcam to no avail. I've also tried unplugging it but the error persists so I'd say its safe to rule out webcam/driver incompatibility.

Copy the missing file d3dx9_30.dll into the
\Windows\System32 folder, and if necessary register it e.g. regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\d3dx9_30.dll if this will not work try to place d3dx9_30.dll in your freetrack folder e.g. c:\tools\ft22\) en do the same regsvr32 c:\tools\ft22\d3dx9_30.dll |

I've just found another problem. When I attempt to uninstall Freetrack 2.2 I get an error message as well, this time:
"delete.exe has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem." Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: delete.exe Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 474c26fb Fault Module Name: delete.exe Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 474c26fb Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000042b6 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 3081 Additional Information 1: f09d Additional Information 2: 5ffcf9c0b294f26e19f4181a1e5d09e8 Additional Information 3: 3e36 Additional Information 4: 2b60963a1393ea6e4bb51e11c38fecba I press close and it just disappears, the program is not uninstalled. Any ideas anyone? The odd thing is uninstall worked fine a few days ago when I tried a reinstall of v2.2. I don't believe I've changed anything since then.

its the webcam driver, it happened to me many time after i installed 2.2, my 2.1 is working alright then with too much excitement when i saw that 2.2 is available with no hesitation nor backup my profiles i just uninstalled 2.1 and installed 2.2 even deleting my profiles, then when i tried it out, it just wont open, then always giving me alot of errors, theres instance when i can make it run to the menu of freetrack and tried setting up but when i start it, it just crash my vista, after several attempts uninstalled 2.2 then installed 2.1 but still it still not working, so it puzzled me but after alot of digging to my settings even my hardware manager i found that the problem is the webcam driver coz eventhough il just open my webcam for just taking pics it just crashes my vista so i installed again my webcam setup 2.1 again and after weeks of trying to figure out my setup again i finally found my perfect setup. now im just using 2.1 il just wait untill there will be a patch and atleast 50 peoplewill say that its working like a charm

Sadly I don't believe my problem is related to the driver. Initially I also though this was the problem. However, after completely uninstalling the webcam and its drivers the problem persists. I also tried several different versions of the driver, which made no difference.
You might want to try the same thing Emil just to make sure the crash you are having is being caused by the driver. Is your crash a complete Windows crash or just an application crash? Mine crashes the application but Windows is still fine. I should point out that my webcam functions perfectly in every application other that freetrack 2.2 so as far as compatibility with Vista goes, it's fine. It works fine in 2.1 on the same drivers. Cheers, |

you know what, i think your right, it doesnt have to do with the webcam driver, coz i just had the guts earlier ago to install again 2.2 and to my surprise my webcam is fine so i proceed in testing freetrack, in went well with the default its all smooth, setup one at a time, saved the profile then i close the application to save the profile so i open it again then start freetrack, BUT then from very smooth a while ago turns into very laggy that its only 4FPS and has alot of JPS..it really puzzled me that it was going very well smooth then it turns very laggy and slow...im trying to think if theres an issue between data transferring from the webcam to freetrack, because if i run the webcam application only its very well smooth....hmmm....it really needs alot of patch....damn....im just going back to 2.1........what are you using, 2.1 or the 2.1.2?........i think 2.1 is much more stable....coz ive used it for quite sometime and i really didnt had any crashes with freetrack....unlike before that there were plenty of tyms that im using freetrack in FSX and in onlne flying where there is a tower in the airport then as i was just about to land freetrack just suddenly crash and so since i cant see the runway i end up crashing a 747 as well.

I'm using 2.1.
Did you check the exposure settings in 2.2? Perhaps it works for a while then goes laggy because autoexposure is choosing a long exposure time. This might happen if for example you lean over the camera and block out most of the light momentarily making the camera's view darker. Mine has done this before. Some people have reported that freetrack crashes under such conditions where the exposure setting is too high and the FPS is low as a result. Maybe that is the cause of your problem. Cheers, Toby |

On the off chance anybody is taking note of this, I've tried some new things and I'm still getting the same error but the error codes are different and there's an extra couple of popups (which seem to be the same ones just repeated).
If anyone is interested I'll post the errors here. I found that there was an incorrect registry entry for NPClient.dll. I fixed that but its done nothing but add more error boxes. |

Off line Www |
You should uninstall all version of FreeTrack and Natural Point (if you have installed one) softwares. Then clear the registry from all entries NPclient.dll or TrackIR or even FreeTrack. Make a backup of your registry before doing so ! Then just install last version.
Just some ideas... Rémy |

Hi Didja
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I've already tried doing this and it didn't work. I forgot to do it before installing the 2.2.0.279 update yesterday but I've cleaned registry and reinstalled just now and it had no effect. However the installer no longer seems to be creating the registry entry for NPClient at all. The installer also seems to be acting oddly - sometimes it takes seconds to install, other times it hangs at 100% for quite a while. So I'm guessing its not installing right for some reason. I tried reinstalling with antivirus etc disabled but this had no effect. Any other ideas? I can post the error codes if it helps. Cheers, **Edit** I just tried reinstalling with UAC off, antivirus/windefender/etc off, cleaned registry, still not working. Registry key for NPClient wasn't updated, after manually fixing it no change. There's no registry entries for freetrack at all so far as I can see. P.S. I should also note that freetrack now uninstalls fine using its own uninstaller, before it was crashing in a similar way to freetrack.exe. Weird.

Hi,
Does someone managed to solve this problem? It is the same for me on Vista 32. Yesterday it worked well, just saved my profile and shutdown the computer. And today when i try to launch freetrack I have a dozen of error message "Access violation at...." until the app crashes. Game is Condor. I will try an uninstall but I am pessimistic when I read the above comments. It is very frustrating! I would be pleased if developpers could give us some ideas about that. Sweet |
